harmonised across the EU; 100 is the single Romanian national code.

### National code

- **100** — Valid for driving the vehicle in Romania in the presence of a certified driving instructor or an examiner from the competent authority during the practical course and the practical tests for the initial professional qualification certificate. ## Where it sits on the licence

The codes sit on the back of the card, in column 12 of the category table. When
a code applies to all your categories, it appears once, on the bottom line of
the table.

## Usual questions

**What does code 78 on a licence mean?**
78 restricts the entitlement to vehicles with automatic transmission. With 78
on category B, manuals are off limits.

**What is the difference between 01 and 01.06?**
01 requires sight correction while driving, in general. 01.06 names the form:
glasses or contact lenses, your choice.

**What does the date in brackets next to 95 mean?**
95 shows a certificate of professional competence (CPC) for road transport, and
the bracketed date is the day it runs to.

**Code 96 or category BE?**
With 96, category B also covers a trailer when the combined mass passes
3,500 kg, up to 4,250 kg. Past 4,250 kg, category BE is needed.

**Why do some codes carry letters?**
Letters a–g name the side or place: left, right, hand, foot, middle, arm,
thumb.

**What is code 100?**
100 is the single Romanian national code: valid only in Romania, with an
instructor or examiner beside you, during initial professional qualification.

The official wordings come from MAI Order 157/2012 on the form and content of
the driving licence, which transposes Directive 2006/126/EC. National code 100
