# Research population and housing conditions

Choose the geography and counting unit before combining tables.

## 1. Establish the population reference

In table 1.22, retain rows at the chosen level. Communes include villages; hierarchical rows must not be added together.

## 2. Read housing installations

Table 8.22 provides county detail. Compare dwelling categories using the corresponding dwelling total, not population.

## 3. Add an annual series

Verify the county through its NUTS 3 code and retain unit, year and flags. Population on 1 January has a different reference date from the census.

## Caution

Resident population, households and dwellings have different units. A ratio between them may answer a different question from the one intended.

A table recording indicator, unit, geography, period, source and the limits of each comparison.
