# Investigate the protection status of a historical monument

Trace the LMI heritage code through cadastral maps, orthophotos and archival records to document conservation buffer zones.

## 1. Identify canonical monument identifier

Locate the asset in the Historic Monuments List, recording its LMI code, heritage tier (A or B), chronology and official address.

## 2. Overlay property on cadastral parcels

Inspect the ANCPI geoportal to retrieve the cadastral parcel boundaries, land registry identifier and high-resolution orthophoto.

## 3. Examine historical blueprints and archives

Search national archive inventories for original construction blueprints, historical deeds, and restoration reports.

## Caution

Street addresses in the Historic Monuments List can be obsolete or renumbered by municipalities. Relying solely on addresses without cadastral and cartographic cross-referencing leads to misidentifying protected plots.
