The headwater creeks above the confluence — the Breg (46 km, hydrographically the main branch, source near Furtwangen, 1,078 m) and the Brigach (40 km) — lie outside the marked river kilometrage and are described, not charted. The first measured station in the set remains Regensburg (km 2,379): between Donaueschingen and Regensburg we hold no instrumental gauges — coverage is geographically complete, not instrumentally complete, and we say so explicitly."
