In 1939, the fastest Bucharest–Timișoara passenger service reached 9h17 over 578 km. In 1977, Rapid 11 covered the direct 533 km line in 7h30. In 1996, IC 912 ran it in 6h25. Today, the fastest train requires 10h41–10h50 (49–50 km/h average speed). Across the national network, 72.56% of open lines are past their renewal date, creating 780 active open-line speed restrictions. --- ## 6.
