## Three fates
Ion never appears in the 2002–2022 top 20; in January 2024, 328,081 men were named Ion, 442,011 Ioan and 364,186 Ionuț. Andrei has led the boys since 2005 (peak 16,654 in 2017; 12,150 in 2022). David rose from No. 16 in 2004 to No. 2 in 2012, peaking at 12,004 in 2015, then fell to No. 6 in 2022 (5,204, −56.6% from the peak).
## Iași 2023
7,036 births (3,699 boys, 3,337 girls). Maria leads the girls with 827 (about 1 in 4); Andrei leads the boys with 500 (about 1 in 7).
## How we know
The source is the General Directorate for Persons Records, a National Persons Registry table published by Știrile ProTV on 29 March 2023: the top 20 names per birth year, girls and boys separately. Unit: person count and top rank. The 2023 column is partial and excluded. Search ignores diacritics. A missing year means “below No. 20”, not zero. DGEP, INS and data.gov.ro publish no county series; the only sub-national geography is the municipality of Iași, 2023.
