# One night sees less than half the month

In June 2026, MHCLG estimated 3,980 people sleeping rough on a single night and 8,748 people identified at some point during the month. The ratio is 2.2×; the single-night figure is 45.5% of the monthly figure.

**Boundary:** these are two different estimates, not a list of people that can be matched. The difference does not mean “people missed”.

## How the arithmetic works

3,980 ÷ 8,748 = 45.5%. 8,748 ÷ 3,980 = 2.2×, rounded to one decimal place.

## What each measure sees

- One night: a snapshot of the people estimated that night.
- One month: people identified at different points across the month.
- Neither: an annual total of everyone without a safe place to sleep.
