# How far is your park

Across 112,894 analysed points in Bucharest, the median to the nearest named park is 5.8 minutes on foot — 73.4% are within 10 minutes of a park. We measured 4,372 streets, 169 named parks, 6 sectors. Search your street.

The city median is 5.8 minutes — half of the 112,894 analysed points are closer to a park, half farther. 1.0% of streets are at zero: 0 minutes.

The farthest from a park is Strada Milcov: 74.4 minutes (5,954 metres) to Parcul Humulești, across 123 addresses. At zero sit 25 streets with at least 20 addresses; we show the one with the most addresses, Calea Victoriei: 0.0 minutes, across 272 addresses, by Parcul Nicolae Iorga.

The numbers measure the straight line to the edge of the nearest named park on the map: 169 parks and gardens, no unnamed ones, no shut-gated ones. A minute means 80 metres of easy walking.

## Where each street's park is

The map shows how long you walk from each place to the nearest named park: green is close, red is far. The columns are the 169 parks; height says how many streets each one serves. Grey is outside the city — the map does not measure there.

This is the whole city's distance from a park: the surface says the minutes, the columns are the parks. Colour says the band, column height says how many streets the park serves.

Only the parks: 169 named on the map, gardens and parks together. Serving the most streets is Parcul Humulești, with 232 — though it covers 1.5 hectares. The largest, Parcul Tineretului, at 149.0 hectares, serves 81 streets.

For example, Șoseaua Mihai Bravu: 0.3 minutes on foot (25 metres) to Parc Vatra Luminoasa, across 239 addresses. Press “Jump to park” and the map takes you there.

Only the streets, through the surface: Strada Milcov is the farthest (74.4 minutes), Calea Victoriei is at zero (0.0 minutes). Rankings keep only streets with at least 20 addresses.

Only the sectors: the farthest is Sector 5, with a median of 6.6 minutes, followed by Sector 3 at 6.4. The closest is Sector 2, at 4.2 minutes.

## Your street's park

Type a street. You get the minutes on foot to the nearest named park, the distance in metres and the park itself — with a button that takes you to it on the map. The number is the minimum across the street's addresses: the closest point sets it.

## What the minutes mean

Every street and every map cell is coloured by the minutes on foot to the nearest named park; the bands are the same everywhere. A minute means 80 metres of easy walking, straight line — no detours, no crossings.

- **At zero** (0 minutes): Calea Victoriei sits here, at 0.0 minutes across 272 addresses. 1.0% of measured streets are at zero.
- **Close** (0–5 minutes): Șoseaua Mihai Bravu (0.3 minutes) and Smârdan (2.1 minutes) sit here.
- **Nearby** (5–10 minutes): The city median (5.8 minutes) sits here: 73.4% of analysed points are within 10 minutes of a park.
- **Far** (10–15 minutes): Strada Ropotului (14.0 minutes) sits here.
- **Very far** (15–30 minutes): Șoseaua Gheorghe Ionescu Sisești (20.0 minutes) sits here.
- **Desert** (over 30 minutes): Strada Milcov sits here, at 74.4 minutes — the farthest of the streets with at least 20 addresses.

The minute is our own reckoning: 80 metres, an easy city pace, the same for every street.

The bands are this analysis's cuts, fitted to the spread of minutes: “at zero” means 0.0 after rounding, not that the street touches the park; “desert” above 30 minutes. The upper bound belongs to the band: 5.0 minutes falls in “Close”. Every ranking shows the number to one decimal.

## How it is measured

Each street takes its park from around its addresses: for every point in the index, the straight-line distance to the edge of the nearest named park; the street's number is the minimum — the closest point sets it. The index keeps at most 60 points per street — 602 streets hit the cap — and the card shows indexed addresses, not evaluated points.

The parks are the 169 named ones on OpenStreetMap — parks and gardens inside Bucharest; The 9 same-name doubles were merged, keeping the largest polygon. Left out are 31 named ones outside the city (32 polygons), 1,215 unnamed ones, which cannot be searched, and 2 with no usable geometry. Cotroceni and Sala Palatului are shut-gated on the map, and a campus, a school and a weather station are institutional yards — 5 removed, all counted.

A street with under 3 addresses in the index gets no number; 506 streets stayed unmeasured — they show as such, not as zero. City shares are computed over 112,894 analysed points. Sector medians use the points inside each sector's ring; 3,958 points fall in no ring but count toward the city.

Limits: the line is straight — detours, fences and boulevards with no crossing are invisible, so the minutes are a floor under the real walk. Some gardens charge entry or keep hours. And maps age: a park opened after the extract is missing until the next one.

## Parks and sectors

The 169 named parks on the map, each with its mapped-polygon area (not the official one) and the count of streets it is nearest to. 10 parks serve no street: for every address around them, another park is closer. Ranked first is Parcul Humulești, the nearest park for 232 streets. Names are the map's own, word for word — some generic ('Parc'). Areas round to 0.1 ha from vector polygons: that is why Parcul Humulești is 1.5 ha here and 2.0 ha on the companion raster map.

### Sectors

The farthest is Sector 5, with a median of 6.6 minutes; next comes Sector 3, at 6.4. The closest is Sector 2, at 4.2 minutes — 89.2% of analysed points are within 10 minutes of a park.
