# The target is the sensor

## Thesis

Russia’s war in Ukraine has made the reconnaissance-and-strike system itself a durable object of military learning. The lasting gain under examination is institutional knowledge: finding, suppressing and revisiting the networks that let an opponent see and decide.

## What this page covers

- The shift from weapon-centred analysis to the sensor-to-shooter system, with individual weapons treated as elements within it.
- An interactive counter-ISTAR schematic that marks collection, communication, processing and command as disrupted before the final effect.
- A 2022–2026 timeline of the learning curve described in the sources.
- A comparison between expendable munitions and accumulated organisational knowledge.
- A non-operational eastern-flank exercise using institutional categories only.

## Limits

This is an independent open-source explainer. It names no locations, orders of battle or vulnerabilities and remains non-operational. Its timeline meters are an indicative synthesis of the sourced narrative, not measurements. Case-specific figures are labelled as such.
