Where the name comes from
Named after the Elephant and Castle, a pub and coaching inn at the crossroads, recorded from 1765. The story that it corrupts "La Infanta de Castilla" has been debunked.
Worth knowing: Press reports said a baby born on a train here was named Thelma Ursula Beatrice Eleanor to spell T.U.B.E.; her real name was Mary Ashfield Eleanor Hammond.
