Named for the village of Granborough in Buckinghamshire, which it served; it was initially spelt Grandborough Road. The village name is Anglo-Saxon and means "green hill"; the Domesday Book records it as Grenesberga.
Worth knowing: The station's name appears in the 2012 James Bond film Skyfall, embedded in a cypher.
