Where the name comes from
Named after the village of Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire, which it serves. The -den ending probably comes from Old English denu, valley. The first part is uncertain; the explanation currently preferred links it to a lost word for water or marsh plants, giving "valley where water plants grow".
