Named after Hanger Lane, the road beside which it was built when the Central line station opened in 1947. Hanger comes from the Old English hangra, a wooded slope.
Worth knowing: The ticket hall sits in the middle of the Hanger Lane Gyratory, a large roundabout, and passengers reach it through pedestrian subways.
