Where the name comes from
Harrow comes from Old English hearg, a heathen temple, which probably stood on Harrow hill. The station opened as Harrow in 1880 and became Harrow-on-the-Hill in 1894; the town proper sits on top of the hill while the station is at its foot, so the name is described as marketing rather than precision.
