Where the name comes from
From a pub, The Hero of Maida, on Edgware Road, whose sign showed General Sir John Stuart. Stuart was made Count of Maida, a town in Calabria, after the British victory at the Battle of Maida in 1806.
Worth knowing: When it opened in 1915 it was the first station staffed entirely by women.
