Why is it called Old Street?

Where the name comes from
Named after Old Street, at whose junction with City Road the station stands. The street was recorded as Ealdestrate around 1200; it follows an old Roman or possibly pre-Roman track between Silchester and Colchester that skirted the walls of Londinium.
Worth knowing: It was used as a bomb shelter in the Second World War.
