Named after Putney Bridge, though the station is on the Fulham side of the Thames, not in Putney. Fulham comes from Old English: the personal name Fulla and hamm, land hemmed in by water or a river-meadow.
Worth knowing: From 1902 to 1932 it was called Putney Bridge & Hurlingham.
