Where the name comes from
Named after Tottenham Hale. "Hale" is said to come from an old English word meaning to hoist or pull, because goods, especially timber, were unloaded from the River Lea there.
Worth knowing: It opened in 1840 as plain Tottenham and was renamed Tottenham Hale in 1968, when the Victoria line arrived.
