Where the name comes from
Named after the Victorian Upton Park housing estate, whose developers paid for the station. The estate took its name from the nearby village of Upton, first recorded as Hupington in 1203 and thought to mean 'at the high lying farmstead'; 'Park' was added for marketing.
Worth knowing: It was the first station on the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway to be built by a property developer.
