Where the name comes from
Named after the district. The name is generally traced to Falkes de Breauté, head of King John's mercenaries, whose house was called Faulke's Hall, later Foxhall and eventually Vauxhall. The railway station took the name Vauxhall in 1863.
Worth knowing: The Russian word for a railway station, vokzal, echoes Vauxhall: a Russian pleasure pavilion was named after the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens.
