Where the name comes from
Named after the town of Walthamstow, recorded as Wilcumestowe ("the Place of Welcome") and in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Wilcumestou. The station opened as Hoe Street in 1870 and took its present name in 1968, when the Victoria line arrived.
