Where the name comes from
Named after the town of Watford; the station stands in Cassiobury Park Avenue, about a mile from the town centre. Watford may come from Old English "waet" (full of water; the area was marshy) or "wath" (hunting), plus "ford".
Worth knowing: Opening posters in 1925 showed Watford High Street on market day, although the station is about a mile from the town centre.
