Where the name comes from
Named after West Drayton, known in 939 as Draegtun: tun meant a farmstead, and dray, as in draught, probably refers to dragging loads or ploughs. "West" may have been added to tell it apart from Drayton near Ealing. From 1895 to 1974 the station was called West Drayton and Yiewsley, and it actually stands in Yiewsley.
