Where the name comes from
Named after York Road, on whose corner with Bingfield Street it stood; the road has since been renamed York Way.
Worth knowing: When boards covering the façade were removed in 1989, the original lettering could be seen again.
York Road, 1906–1932
North of King’s Cross on the Piccadilly line. It closed in 1932, on the day the line was extended from Finsbury Park to Arnos Grove. The red building is still on York Way, and the tiled lift lobby survives inside.
