Search a Romanian locality. See the factories, farms, refineries, power plants and treatment works listed in official environmental registers, what they reported and for which year.
Registry inclusion means that a facility is covered by a reporting threshold or regulatory regime. It does not measure risk at an address or show how much of a pollutant reaches people.

The map opens with Ploiești, one of the densest cases in the registers. Search for your town or commune. Filters separate regulatory regimes from reports on air, water and waste.
Each dot marks the centre of the reported locality, not the facility coordinates. Overlapping dots may represent several facilities.
What each register means
SEVESO
A Seveso establishment holds dangerous substances above thresholds set by Directive 2012/18/EU. Classification requires measures to prevent and control major accidents. The Directive explicitly separates hazard, the intrinsic potential to cause harm, from risk, the likelihood of an effect under specified circumstances.
IPPC and E‑PRTR
IPPC installations carry out industrial activities covered by integrated pollution prevention and control. E‑PRTR publishes facilities and quantities reported above registry thresholds: releases to air, releases to water and waste transfers. A quantity measured or calculated at a stack or discharge point is not a measurement of the air residents breathe.
Why the years differ
The atlas uses the most recent supplied file for each series: 2024 for Seveso; 2023 for IPPC, industrial complexes and releases; 2022 for waste transfers; and 2021 for incinerators. Each record retains its reporting year.
How the map was made
Registers were joined by operator and locality. Different pollutants were never combined into a single score. These files do not include facility coordinates. The map uses the GeoNames locality centre and retains the registry address. A Seveso locality is accepted only when its name appears in the establishment name or address. 259 rows without a reliable match were excluded.
The result answers “what appears in the registers in my locality?” It cannot reliably answer “how far is it from my home?” or “what is my risk?” Those questions require facility coordinates, dispersion modelling, weather conditions and exposure data.
