Pillar III pension
A private pension you join voluntarily, with a tax deduction of up to €400 a year.
What is the Pillar 3 pension?
Pillar III is a voluntary pension: you choose whether to join, which fund and how much to pay. The funds are privately managed and supervised by the ASF.
The state encourages saving here through a deduction: your contributions come off taxable salary income, up to €400 a year. Your employer can separately contribute up to €400 a year for you, untaxed within the Fiscal Code's limits.
The deduction means you do not pay the 10% income tax on the amount contributed. On €400 the tax saving is €40 a year.
As with any fund, yearly costs and what the fund does with the money matter. Each manager and the ASF publish them.
You pay 150 lei a month into Pillar III: 1,800 lei a year, under the €400 ceiling. After a year you have paid 180 lei less tax on your salary.
How much can I deduct for Pillar III?
Your contributions come off taxable salary income, up to the equivalent of €400 a year. At 10% income tax, the saving is up to €40 a year.
Is Pillar III compulsory?
No. It is a voluntary pension: you choose whether to join, which fund and how much to pay.
