Why is it called Archway?

Where the name comes from
Named after the road bridge over the deep cutting of Archway Road. "Archway" was a euphemism for the tunnel the Highgate Archway Company set out to build. The station opened in 1907 as Highgate and became Archway in 1947 after two interim names.
Worth knowing: The name "Archway Tavern" was also considered for the station.
