Where the name comes from
Named after Arsenal Football Club, which played at the nearby Highbury Stadium. Originally Gillespie Road, the station was renamed in 1932 after a campaign backed by the club's manager, Herbert Chapman.
Worth knowing: It is the only tube station named directly after a football club, and the platform walls still show the Gillespie Road name in tiles.
