Why is it called Hornchurch?

Where the name comes from
First recorded in 1233 as Hornechurch; according to Mills it means 'church with horn-like gables'. Another suggestion links it to the bull's-head seal of Hornchurch Priory, but the seal and the bull emblem are said to derive from the name, not the reverse.
