Where the name comes from
First recorded in 872 as Anglo-Saxon norð healum: norð, "north", and healum, a nook or corner. The ending later became holt, which here has nothing to do with "wood". Domesday records it as Northala.
Worth knowing: RAF Northolt is actually in South Ruislip; it was named after the nearby Northolt Junction station.
