Where to Drink Romanian Wine: DOC Regions, the Recaș Visit, Tasting in Five Steps

Where to drink Romanian wine? Regions come from the official registry, and visits are written only where the winery's own site publishes one: the four Recaș packages, with prices and booking rules, line by line from the winery's visit page.

Under 18s should leave; no wine-and-health talk; no best-ever verdicts.

Three sentences first: the 35 DOCs are a list, never a recommendation; a visit counts only from the winery's site, third-party 'visitable' tags don't count; Serve, Jidvei, Cotnari, and Murfatlar had no public visit programs at writing time, so they have no cards here.

Pick a package: budget, time, group

Four packages, four rules, all from the Recaș visit page. A group too small returns 'cannot go' — the rule is the rule.

Recaș: the one verifiable visit

Cramele Recaș (Banat country, about 24 km / 30 minutes from Timișoara) is the only winery with a published program at writing time. Below, its visit page transcribed.

CURIOUS — 120 lei / 1h

1 hour / RON 120: vineyard + old cellar, 5 pours, bread with olive oil and cheese.

ENTHUSIAST — 235 lei / 2h

2 hours / RON 235: visit + 5 pours + main course, dessert, water, coffee.

LOVER — 290 lei / 3h

3 hours / RON 290: visit + 5 pours + two mains, dessert, water, coffee.

CONNOISSEUR — 530 lei / 3h

3 hours / RON 530: visit + 6 premium pours (Muse, Solo Quinta, Cuvee Uberland, Conacul Ambrozy ranges) + two mains, dessert, water, coffee.

Booking rules

All 4 packages need booking min. 48h ahead; phone 0744.366.146, confirm 1–2 days ahead.

Mon–Fri 10:00–16:30 min. 4 people; after 16:30 and Saturdays min. 20.

Wine at a discount in the shop. The site gates at 18+ and promotes responsible drinking.

Tasting in five steps: Cotnari's public guide

The method from Cotnari's degustare page, transcribed. A tasting guide is never a visit program: Cotnari's tourism page sits behind a login, unverified.

  1. Step 1: choose the wine and read its data.
  2. Step 2: look — color and clarity.
  3. Step 3: first nose, no swirling.
  4. Step 4: swirl, second nose.
  5. Step 5: taste, move the wine through the mouth.

The checklist: verify before you go

Whatever Recaș publishes, demand from everyone else. One item missing, don't go.

  1. Does the winery publish a visit page? If not, don't go. (Serve, Jidvei, Cotnari had no public programs at writing time.)
  2. Are package, duration, and price all stated? Recaș states all four: RON 120/235/290/530 for 1/2/3/3 hours.
  3. Are booking rules stated? Recaș: 48h ahead, min. 4 people, Mon–Fri 10:00–16:30.
  4. Is the contact the winery's own? Recaș gives 0744.366.146. Third-party 'visitable' tags don't count.
