But 55% are fast.

At the end of December 2025, Ireland counted 3,416 public electric-vehicle charging points: one point per 30 electric passenger vehicles and vans. Of those points, 1,883 were fast — 55%.

What you get: a two-question comparison: how many points serve the vehicle denominator, and what share of those points clears the fast threshold.

Next: units, reference dates, arithmetic, and the boundary the number cannot measure.

01 / the short answer

Two answers, not one

Ask “how many points serve each vehicle?” and the published answer is one per 30. Ask “how many points are fast?” and the answer is 55%.

That is not a contradiction. The first measure describes density against a vehicle denominator; the second describes the composition of the points already counted.

The figures are not from one day

The CSO places Ireland and the EU-27 in the same comparison, but their reference windows are not identical.

So what exactly does “fast” mean inside that 55%?

Coverage: the CSO says coverage is comprehensive for larger operators, but some smaller operators had not supplied API data by the end of 2025.

The release can answer about an inventory, not about whether a journey is sufficient.

55% does not fix 30:1
