Why is it called Holborn?

Where the name comes from
Holborn may come from Middle English hol, hollow, and bourne, brook, referring to the River Fleet in its steep valley. The 16th-century historian John Stow instead linked it to the Old Bourne, a small stream he believed ran into the Fleet.
Worth knowing: It was renamed Holborn (Kingsway) in 1933, but the suffix fell out of use.
