Why is it called Oxford Circus?

Where the name comes from

Named after Oxford Circus, the junction of Regent Street and Oxford Street above it; it was first called Regent Circus North. Regent Street is named after George, the Prince Regent. Oxford Street was known as Tyburn Road in the Middle Ages and became Oxford Road, then Oxford Street, in the 18th century.

Worth knowing: In 2011 an Australian winemaker, Oxford Landing, held talks to rename the station after its product; the deal broke down.
