Romanian Books in Chinese: A Verified Map of Translations
Method & sources
The claim-by-claim ledger: each card's record, each search's trail.
Verification ledger (fetched 2026-09-19)
D1 · Douban entries (28, 200)
Each with the static catalogue block: author/translator/publisher/year/ISBN (or unified number)/original title. IDs: 30253361, 3929433 (unified 10188-184), 27601588, 36390508–36390511, 1372741, 35784075, 35788677, 30152566, 2330806, 20273136, 5344917, 35900190, 25774978, 30488074, 36361955, 36361959, 37808423, 4766921, 25815626, 35184924, 36201255, 36249596, 5264477, 5264481, 5264486.
D2 · Open Library (200)
Nine author+chi searches: Eminescu 1, Istrati 2, Cioran 0, Eliade 6, Ionesco 3 (all false hits), Sorescu 1, Stănescu 0, Cărtărescu 0, Müller 3 works. Thirteen editions checked one by one: Chinese editions matched ISBN to ISBN, publisher to publisher; “Shamanism” 9787520123419 (OL44390527M) and “Niederungen” 9787214064523 (OL62205788M) coincide with Douban — double confirmation. Solenoid: 20 editions/16 languages, no Chinese (same counts as rev.2).
D3 · Douban search trails
subject_search over curl returns only a JS shell (“searching…”), no static results — the cheap rev.2 path is dead; switched to tag pages: tag “Cioran” 7 entries, “Müller” 7, “Cărtărescu” empty (200, page without books), “Istrati” empty; remaining author tags 404 (no such tag). The Cărtărescu gap card rests on these three trails.
D4 · Catalogues unreachable on check day
Both NLC hosts (find/opac) timed out; Google Books API 429; WorldCat first query shell-only, second query Cloudflare-1015-limited; Britannica 403 (Wikipedia biographies took the background-reading role). Hence: the two “Fox” partials (translators missing), the Ding Chao 2008 monograph not entered, WorldCat not listed among catalogues.
D5 · Transliteration variants (each as printed)
Suoliesiku 1996/Suoleisiku 2013, Xiao Hang 2010/Cioran, Youniesiku (Taiwan)/Youneisiku/Younaisiku, Aiminaisiku (Cioran's given name)/Aiminaisiku. Variants sit on cards, never merged.
D6 · Why cards carry no page counts
Douban gives “Blank of Water” 252 pages, AbeBooks once gave 248; no colophon means no arbitration — what is not printed cannot be wrong.
