Term

Plain-language glossary

Plain-language definitions for the recurring employment, immigration and recruitment terms used in this reference.

Gross salary

Pay before taxes and statutory deductions. When a Romanian rule states a gross threshold, compare it with a gross figure—not a recruiter’s estimate of take-home pay.

Net salary

The amount after taxes and statutory deductions, before any separate deductions or charges that may appear. Check what the offer and contract mean by “net”.

Firm job offer

The structured offer described by the current WorkinRomania process. It should identify the job and material terms before travel.

Employment contract

The individual employment agreement between worker and employer. Keep your own signed copy.

Placement agency

A Romanian intermediary authorised for worker placement under the current Romanian framework. Its status does not certify every specific job.

Placement contract

Where an authorised placement agency is involved, the agreement documenting the placement relationship and key terms.

Employer

The Romanian legal entity employing you. Do not confuse it with a recruiter, agency, accommodation provider or a person messaging you.

Recruiter / agent

A person or organisation involved in recruitment. The label alone does not tell you its legal identity, country, licence or role.

REGES-ONLINE

Romania’s employee-register system operated by the Labour Inspectorate. It is relevant to the registration and visibility of employment records.

IGI

Inspectoratul General pentru Imigrări — Romania’s General Inspectorate for Immigration.

Long-stay visa D

A Romanian long-stay visa category. Employment routes use specific subcategories and eligibility rules.

Residence permit / single permit

The Romanian document/status used for lawful stay beyond the long-stay visa under the applicable immigration route.

Overtime

Work beyond normal working time. Recording actual hours matters before deciding whether compensation rules were followed.

Payslip / pay record

A record showing salary calculation, payment and deductions. Keep it with bank-payment evidence.

Deduction

Money subtracted from pay. Identify the amount, reason, legal/contractual basis and recipient instead of treating all deductions as equivalent.

Repatriation

Return to the worker’s country. Offers/contracts can contain obligations or promises about who pays or arranges it.
