EDUCATION · THE SCHOOL NETWORK IN OFFICIAL LISTS
Education: how many villages are counted with a school?
Follow the reconstructed official school-network series from 2013–14 to 2025–26. Choose a Romanian county and school year to see how many geocoded villages are counted with at least one school structure after one-year gaps are bridged.

GEOCODED VILLAGES
A changing list, county by county
The reconstructed 2025-26 series counts 94 villages with a school structure in Hunedoara County.
These are independent counts of geocoded villages. For 2013–14 and 2014–15, the source project’s analysis table has one more record because it includes a row without coordinates or a county in the point file. The chart counts geocoded villages only, using the same rule in every county and year.
01 / WHAT THE LIST SHOWS
The list counts structures, not children
Romania’s Ministry of Education publishes an approved school network each year. The reconstructed series counts geocoded villages: if a structure appears in the lists before and after a single missing year, we count it as present in that year too. It does not measure enrolment or verify daily operation.
02 / WHAT THE LIST SHOWS
The change is not the same in every county
Change the county and compare the two reconstructed series on the same index: the first year is 100. This shows local change against the reconstructed national count without treating a large county as equivalent to a small one.
03 / WHAT THE LIST SHOWS
School also means calendars, assessments and what comes next
The village counts use a reconstructed series with one-year gaps filled. The projects below answer other school questions: when the year ends, how admissions work, which university programmes are listed and what assessments compare.
04 / WHAT THE LIST SHOWS
Books and schools have their own history
Today’s school networks did not appear all at once. Follow Spiru Haret’s reforms, primers that reached Romanian homes and centres of learning that worked in other eras and languages.
For each village, the yearly mask is “1” if at least one school structure appears, “2” if only a kindergarten appears, and “0” if neither appears. One-year gaps in a structure’s series are bridged before village totals are counted.
