Where the name comes from
A place or district
The Apărătorii Patriei ('Defenders of the Homeland') area in southern Bucharest.
According to Historia, the station took the name of the nearby area and boulevard. Udriște says engineers named stations after their location. When and why the area itself was called 'Defenders of the Homeland' is not clear.
Worth knowing
- In 2012 workers building the Apărătorii Patriei market found an entrance from the original plans that had never opened; it opened a few months later.
- The station serves the Olteniței housing estate.
