Where the name comes from
A square
Piața Romană (Roman Square), where the station stands.
The square was named 'Piața Romană' in 1898, at the junction of Colței Boulevard and Strada Romană (now part of Dacia Boulevard). The name therefore comes from the old Roman Street.
Worth knowing
- It was not in the original plans, so it is asymmetrical, with platforms under 1.5 m wide behind thick walls.
- According to planner Sorin Călinescu, Elena Ceaușescu reportedly demanded that the station be removed.
- Trains ran through without stopping for about a year until it opened on 28 November 1988.
