Where the name comes from

An institution

Gara de Nord, Bucharest's main railway station.

The station is next to the railway station of the same name and in 1987 linked the metro's industrial zones with the main CFR station. There are two separate stations, for M1 and M4, not connected inside the system.

Worth knowing

  • Originally planned as two stacked stations; Ceaușescu objected. Octavian Udriște says the lower level is filled with earth; other accounts call it storage.
  • The M1 station ends in a 90 m radius curve, taken at 30 km/h.
  • Changing between M1 and M4 here needs a new fare, which is why Basarab was built.
