Piața Iancului and the Iancului district in which the station stands.
The station lies in Piața Iancului, at the western end of Șoseaua Iancului, the main road of the district of the same name. An unsupported account links the name 'Iancu' to the revolutionary Avram Iancu and dates the district's name to the communist period.

- It opened in August 1989 on the Gara de Nord–Dristor 2 section (7.8 km, 6 stations), then part of Line III; today it belongs to M1.
- It is near the Iulia Hasdeu National College, in the Iancului district.
- The station is planned as an interchange and temporary terminus of the future M5 line.
