Where the name comes from
A place or district
Orizont, one of the subdivisions (complexes) of the Drumul Taberei district planned in the late 1950s.
Drumul Taberei was planned in named subdivisions, among them Favorit, Orizont and Drumul Taberei 34, on the former Army Pyrotechnics grounds. The station takes the name of the Orizont area. Where the area's name comes from is not clear.
Worth knowing
- The Orizont area holds the ruins of the hangar where Aurel Vlaicu worked; his first flight took place here on 17 June 1910.
- Bullet holes from December 1989 are still visible on some blocks in the Orizont area, opposite the General Staff building.
- M5 stations were built exclusively by excavation from the surface (the top-down method).
