Calea Griviței, named after the Grivița redoubt taken by the Romanian army at Plevna in 1877.
The station is on Calea Griviței. The street was once the Târgoviște road and got its present name after the 1877–78 War of Independence, honouring the Grivița redoubt at Plevna, the one redoubt the Russo-Romanian army took and held through the siege. The station is close to the Grivița railway workshops.
