Where the name comes from
A place or district
Bazilescu Park, named after the jurist Nicolae S. Basilescu (1860–1938), who donated the land.
The station is named after the adjacent park. Its land was donated to the state by law professor Nicolae Basilescu (the spelling on his bust), dean of law in Bucharest, Liberal deputy, industrialist and maker of 'Capșa' sparkling wine (1912). The park was for a time named after Nicolae Bălcescu.
Worth knowing
- The station was not in the original plan: it was built at the end of the tunnels dug by 1989 so the section could open sooner, which explains its 'tubular' platforms.
- It was the M4 terminus until 2017.
- The park contains the 1953 Summer Theatre, with 2,000 seats, now badly decayed.
