Where the name comes from

An institution

The Politehnica University of Bucharest, next to which the station stands.

The station is named after the Politehnica University of Bucharest. The university traces its tradition to Gheorghe Lazăr's school at Saint Sava, in 1818. It was Politehnica din București from 1920, the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest from 1948 to 1992, then Politehnica University. The station kept its name throughout.

Worth knowing

• The platform's limestone slabs contain fossil rudists, from a Late Cretaceous reef quarried in the Apuseni Mountains.
• It opened in 1983 on the Eroilor–Industriilor section, which was initially a branch of M1, not a separate line.
• It sees relatively little traffic, with no residential quarters nearby.
