Where the name comes from
A factory
The Timpuri Noi ('New Times') engineering works nearby.
Like Semănătoarea at the other end of the first section, the station was named after the local factory, according to former Metrorex director Gheorghe Udriște. The works moved to Jilava from 2010, and in 2023 the Metrorex board voted to rename the station after Octavian Udriște, a decision put to public consultation after residents objected.
Worth knowing
- It was the eastern terminus of the first section until the extension to Republica on 28 December 1981.
- In September 2023 Metrorex voted to rename it Octavian Udriște; the current name is still Timpuri Noi.
- In 2009 Metrorex planned to rename it but dropped the idea.
