Where the name comes from

A place or district

Obor market, the old 'Outer Fair' or cattle market.

Obor market is recorded from the 17th century in the Stelea Monastery documents as the 'Outer Fair', also called 'Oborul' or the cattle market. In the 17th–18th centuries hangings were also carried out there. The central market halls, designed by Horia Creangă and Haralamb Georgescu, opened in 1950.

Worth knowing

  • The station box was built in 1979 as an underground tram stop in the Obor underpass and turned into a metro station in 1989.
  • The station closed in 2008 for works and reopened in May 2008.
  • The station's dominant colour is light blue.
