Where the name comes from
A place or district
The nearby area and boulevards, according to Historia; the name is that of the aviation pioneer Aurel Vlaicu (1882–1913).
Aurel Vlaicu was an engineer and aircraft builder; in 1910 he flew the Vlaicu I, built at the Army Arsenal in Bucharest, and died in a flying accident in 1913. The station is in the Aviației district; Historia lists it among stations named after areas and boulevards.
