The source project’s dictionary accounts for Chinese name forms and each name’s historical date range. The list includes present-day countries, historic states and some parts of states. Congo appears as a combined entry and as separate entries; the counts overlap. One article can count for several names.
Many projects in this collection follow a border, a route, a river or a neighbourhood. When it helps, move from the global map to a documented place.
You can compare two names in one year while keeping the archive’s rules and gaps in mind. Do not compare raw counts across decades: article length and coverage change.
